new day, new mood

Hello all,
Today is much better. One of my oldest, bestest friends is here for a visit, and I finally get to see her very pregnant belly. I baked a chocolate cake, and it came out pretty much perfectly. And Tandem, the organic quilt line made for Rose and Radish, has officially been announced.

Do you ever have days when you feel completely discouraged, and wonder why you're doing what you're doing in the first place? I spent the last month or so preparing for a big fair that was today. After standing and smiling for 4 hours, I sold $12 worth of merchandise. I had to pay to be in the show, and actually paid for sewing help as well. It was a complete bust.
To be honest, this is the second time I've felt blue this week. After Tuesday night's elation from our country finally voting for someone who might impact the world in a positive way, I woke up only to find out that California, as well as several other states, voted to take away rights from the gay community. Thanks a lot people! Thanks for making it so I can no longer get married to the woman I have been with for the last 7 years.

It's too early to buy Christmas presents. It makes me crazy to see holiday decorations before Halloween. Seriously people, is nothing sacred?! Christmas cards, maybe, since it takes awhile to write and send them, but even that should wait until at least Nov 1. Maybe you know someone with a birthday coming up? kitchen inspiration

Earlier this year Cristina asked me when I thought we might be done working on the house. I looked at her, amused, and stated that I never plan to finish. Some people, myself included, feel the need to rework and redecorate on a regular basis. So what room now? The kitchen and hallway haven't been repainted since we moved in. I'm thinking a nice warm gray for the bottom section of the hall and white for the top since there is very little natural light there. The image above was posted about 2 months ago by sfgirlbybay in a kitchen inspiration piece, and has been sitting on my desktop since. We have terracotta in our tile and I think these colors will modernize the room, and work with the unfortunate backsplash.

It took an hour and a half to make it through the line, but I fulfilled my civic duty. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, seriously.

do you like the rain?

It poured yesterday. I helped my friend with delivering wedding flowers and we were completely sopped about 5 minutes in. You have to stop trying to stay dry and just let it happen, and then you have to go drink an Irish Coffee. It didn't exactly hit the spot because it wasn't hot enough, and was actually too strong, but it's the thought the counts. I like when it rains all day and you can stay inside by the fire and bake cookies and maybe even knit. I think I don't mind that it's fall. I do mind though that it was dark before 6:00 today. Seriously, I don't understand daylight savings-what a bunch of hooey.
