wishlist

I have a well stocked kitchen. If you take into consideration that I live in a small apartment and that I am pretty young, it borders on obscene. Well, I don't really believe that but someone else might try to argue it. One really important item that I don't have though is a mortar and pestle. I know! How can I call myself a cook?!
In other news...my birthday is just around the corner.

backyard birthday plus Big Franks

I'm infinitely jealous of my sister's sunny backyard. So much so that after yesterday's perfect weather in the East Bay birthday hang-out I started looking on Craigslist for a new place to live. We have a charming apartment, I know this and so do all of you from the Apartment Therapy article. But we have no sun, no light, no outside space. And it's been a long rainy winter and spring this year. Waahhh, boo hoo, I'll shut up now.

speaking of growth spurt

This little thing is turning 6 this week which also means we're really close to celebrating our 6th anniversary. I'm having a hard time believing it has been that long already. But then again, I remember just how tiny she was the first day I held her.

celebrate

Hi all,
I know many of you aren't local, but for those of you who are, please come out June 11th. The Heated will be performing at El Rio, and I will be turning 30. Jill of Small Stump has designed this incredible poster for the show, and there might even be cupcakes.

the cake

Oh, were you wishing you could see the cake? Well, alright, here it is. The two chickens are for my sister and her birthday twin, Haley.

happy birthday to you

Yesterday was the birthday of my most regular reader, and biggest supporter, my sister. We had a day of delicious food. First brunch at La Note, then we baked this incredible cake, went for dinner at Pizzaiolo and finally ate the cake. Everything was fantastic, but I keep thinking about the pizza with delicata and gorgonzola. Baking the cheese mellows it into this gooey bite with the creamy sweet squash, and maybe a bite here and there with chervil, that sort of brightens the whole thing. I also highly suggest making the cake. Shannon had it once at a party, and it has become the always requested birthday cake, which is saying a lot in a family of cooks.
