bkids "making things"

I've been a fan of Irene Hoof and her two blogs Bloesem and BKids since I can remember, so it's super exciting to have a little article I wrote on her kids blog today. Take a look.

sucker for packaging

I'm not going to lie, I'm a total freak for good packaging. If you're like me and will totally pick one product over another completely due to package design, then you should really treat yourself to a little looky-loo over here: http://www.thedieline.com/. I was turned onto it by my friend and design helper Miss Natalie. Together we came up with the concept for packaging my ties and then she took her mad graphic design skills and made it all look right. Letterpress printing by the awesome company Mama's Sauce in Florida and then individually glued together by yours truly, this is a handmade process of love. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Tomorrow I ship out a gigantic order to SF MoMA and all this week I have more orders to fill. Let's make this happen, people!

from class

I recently took a five week photography course dedicated to developing a personal style. I don't know that I have exactly figured my own out, but I did like the direction that our assignments took me. I thought I would share with you the images that I chose to print for our final class. As you will see, I've chosen to examine my subjects as beautiful parts rather than seeing them in entirety or in the classic portrait style. These images are taken spontaneously, capturing the subjects as they are rather than forcing poses on them. The anonymous quality of the children allow you to put yourself in the image, remembering your own care-free childhood. Some of these images you may have seen, other were taken specifically for the class. I'm excited about having a focus for future photo shoots, some classmates suggested ways to add to the series. So, here goes.

checking in

Hi. I feel like I'm juggling a lot right now, and the first thing to get dropped seems to be the blog. I'm sorry about that. Here are a few images for you from the current Bouquets to Art at the DeYoung. For those of you who don't know, it's an opportunity for florists to interpret pieces of art from the museum. This is the 27th year they've held it! I highly recommend checking it out this week-up until Saturday. More information can be found here. The image is my friend (and occasional boss) Natalie Bowen Designs. No surprise, but I really love her piece!

this week

I took the kids for a stroll through the Botanical Gardens today. Some really lovely spring things are happening there, more of which I would have taken pictures of if it hadn't started raining on us. We took cover in the Academy of Sciences which is always a fun place for the kids.

budding branches

In San Francisco it often feels like we go through several seasons in one day. It will be sunny and glorious and then within a matter in minutes the fog rolls in and your right back to freezing your butt off. While it almost never freezes here, there's something about the chill that goes right to your bones. We happened to be at the park last week during a particular lovely moment.

etsy finds

Oh gosh, it's been about a million years since I posted one of these. But I was going through my favorited items on Etsy and figured now might be a good time. Se let's pretend to go shopping. Or better yet, how about you buy some of these awesome things.
