from class
I recently took a five week photography course dedicated to developing a personal style. I don't know that I have exactly figured my own out, but I did like the direction that our assignments took me. I thought I would share with you the images that I chose to print for our final class. As you will see, I've chosen to examine my subjects as beautiful parts rather than seeing them in entirety or in the classic portrait style. These images are taken spontaneously, capturing the subjects as they are rather than forcing poses on them. The anonymous quality of the children allow you to put yourself in the image, remembering your own care-free childhood. Some of these images you may have seen, other were taken specifically for the class. I'm excited about having a focus for future photo shoots, some classmates suggested ways to add to the series. So, here goes.

budding branches
In San Francisco it often feels like we go through several seasons in one day. It will be sunny and glorious and then within a matter in minutes the fog rolls in and your right back to freezing your butt off. While it almost never freezes here, there's something about the chill that goes right to your bones. We happened to be at the park last week during a particular lovely moment.

cold january morning
I think it's been about 2 months since I went to the Ferry Building Farmer's Market. That's a long break for me, so despite the cold, I met up with some friends this morning at the market. It's pretty much dark greens and citrus only at this time of year, and that's okay by me. Mostly today was about pastries and letting the little ones run around.

light coming in
Yesterday at lunch, the sun was streaming in the window making the ornaments reflect sparkles all over the wall. And Em was being adorable.

weather update
Oh my god, summer in November! Last night we were seriously tormented by a mosquito in the bedroom. After 4 attempts to find the little stinker, we finally gave up. He certainly had the last laugh having bitten my honey on the eyelid. Really mosquito? There's very little blood there for drinking but does it ever swell up! I'm taking advantage of the sunshine spending every possible moment with the kids outside. It's inevitable that we'll be stuck inside from rain soon enough. For now it's clear blue skies, lovely grass and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

cookie on your face
I can't believe I dared to complain about the sun setting too early. We have had the most gorgeous weather. It's mid November and 75 degrees. Better to just be thankful for what I got. Like for instance that I can take the kids to eat lunch with my wife at least once a week. It's special for all of us, doubly so when I bring cookies.

wonder where I've been?
This tie business is drumming up a lot of interest and I'm so excited about using fabrics designed by Lauren of Aunt June. In particular I think these prints are perfect for kids and organic fabric is even available, something I always want to support.

a walk in gg park
You'd never know that these pictures were taken in the middle of August. Rain boots? And coats? Oh it's been horrible weather for the last month (no longer though- today is hot hot hot) so I took the girls on a nature walk around Stow Lake. Puddle stomping was a hit as was collecting leaves and grass for an art project I'll share with you soon.

must see sunshine
The fog never once cleared this whole week on the west side of the city (which is where I work) so by Thursday we were in major need of some respite. I took the girls to Fairyland in Oakland. Apparently it was the inspiration for Disneyland and while not as cool in many ways, it also is way more adorable and far less commercial which I like. The girls seemed pretty happy too, especially once E found herself a princess to show her love to.
